Chapitre troisieme
Chapter Three
Chumantou. Hear, hear, vile man, sinful man, and of all men the most foolish. Why, unhappy that you are, are you always attributing new births to him who never had any? If you think that he who is eternal in his nature can indeed be born, what do you do, at least, to be born among men? Such an incarnation would be less unworthy of him. You say that Vishnu had a particular predilection for the gods, as being part of him. If that were indeed true, would we have seen the giants prevail and put them to death on every occasion? He whom you call the master of the world, was he therefore lacking in strength, to put them under cover of their blows and to deliver them from the death? If it was lacking, in fact, you are obliged to agree that you are a true fool to give him the name of god and master of the world, and if there is no lack, you are also obliged to confess that you are only a deceiver and that it is not true that he had a particular predilection for them as you said.
As for the immortality of which you speak, it is natural to the soul, it is essential to it. If we do not enjoy it now, it is because it would be a burden, because this life is only a tissue of misery. God, who sincerely loves his children, wants to make it happier for them. So they should not enjoy it until he has called them to him. It is therefore against all reason that to obtain immortality you make God take a base and contemptible figure, that you make him lend his shoulders to support a mountain which he created with his hands. One must be so steeped in sins as you are to think in a way so unworthy of the divinity.
You add that first a beautiful horse was born from the sea, then Lakchimi, and Chorosboti. The lie is so gross that it is amazing that you did not notice it. God, in creating each thing, wanted it to carry its seed with it so that it could reproduce itself, and it is only through a seed, in fact, that we see each thing reproducing and perpetuating itself. If, in spite of the orders of God, you want it to be otherwise, we should therefore today see such phenomena. I confess that it would be extraordinary and a very new good, for all that there are men on earth to see a beautiful woman or a beautiful horse come out from the bottom of the water.
You say that Chib drank all the poison that came out of the Bachuki snake, and that it was not inconvenient. It is easy on this occasion to convince yourself by toy itself, of the truth of what you are saying. Take [toy meme] a dozen of poison, you will see the effect it will produce, and you will know by the same toy, if we can take it and not die. I pass all the other impertinences that you say about the Bachuki snake that you make serve as a rope, to make a mountain turn on itself, about the sea of milk & c. -- such impertinences are destroyed by themselves. Everyone knows, moreover, that there is only one sea, and that it is salt water. Everyone knows that there was never a snake big enough to surround a mountain, and that if it was, the weight of the mountain, and the force which he had to use to make it turn, would make it fall to pieces. So it would be foolish to even want to use it. You are like the goblet players who say whatever comes to their mind. It would therefore not only be losing my time, but I would also fail to myself, if I stopped to refute everything you say. They are very base and very despicable men, but there are none comparable to them. And it is necessary to have more than diabolical malice to have a pleasure and an occupation, as you do, to precipitate men in hell by the errors you plunge them in. So stop, unhappy man, deceiving men and making them miserable. Learn and convince toy, once and for all, that god was never a turtle, that he does not live in Veikuntan, that he does not have 4 arms, that we do not even see men of this figure, and that finally there was never a sea of milk.
You added that the breathing of the sleeping turtle caused the ebb and flow in the sea of milk that we still see today. I want to pass by this madness, but tell me, now, how this ebb and flow was communicated from the sea of milk to the sea of salt water, and how it still lasts since you agree, even toy, that it has been many centuries since this turtle no longer exists. A boatman would be ashamed to experience such impertinences. I am ashamed, even, to have fun refuting them. Do you want to get rid of this fascination which blinds you and destroys you? Then never see anyone but wise men. They will teach you to distinguish the true from what does not test, and you will gradually lose the taste and the habit of vice, seeing before your eyes only examples of virtue.
You told me about amroutam, tell me now in more detail what it is, and what is its virtue?
Biach. Amroutam is a liquor very similar to water, of an exquisite taste, and which gives immortality to those who drink it.
Chumantou.
Chumantou. The giants, like the gods, had worked to give birth to this liquor. Tthey had strength, wit, and were not people to let themselves be fooled. So why, by drinking the same liquor, have they not become immortal like the gods?
Biach.
Biach. As soon as the amroutam appeared, Vishnu, the supreme being, took the figure of a woman and the name of Mohini, that is to say, woman of joy. She had indeed the language and the game. The giants, seeing her, were taken with love and became the slaves of her will. The new goddess played her character perfectly well and did whatever it took to attract her heart and eyes. Chib, in particular, was taken in and hurt by it. What happened between them did not amount to a crime, but was a scene which greatly entertained all those present. Dourgua even, and Lakchimi, wives of Tun and the other, could not help laughing. Chib, not being able to say what he wanted, told the Goddess to go and share the amroutam, and was, with shame, hiding in a wood.
The Goddess then told the giants to sit in a row and all on the same side. She told the gods the same, and they also did the same. Then speaking to each other, she says to them: you know that those that we want to distinguish in a meal are those that are served last. Therefore, agree between yourselves and tell me where you want me to begin and end. The giants, who were the elders, and who believed themselves, moreover, to be distinguished, because of their strength and their courage, willingly consented that she begin by serving the gods. She did so, and each one drank greedily and hastily the portion which had fallen to him. And hardly had she reached the end of the line on which were seated the gods when Amroutam was already finished. Rehou and Ketou, who had taken part in Amroutam, because they were mixed up with the gods, realized that it was at its end, and warned the giants of it. The Goddess, having finished distributing amroutam to the gods, hid herself and disappeared. The giants, outraged at having been duped by this woman, sought revenge on the gods and gave them battle. They soon realized that their blows were no longer carrying, because the gods were already enjoying immortality. As they did not have the same advantage, they were obliged, in order to put their lives under cover, to take flight, and to retire. That is what concerns the incarnation of the supreme being as a woman called Mohini. The people to whom I published it took my word for it and clung to it like the truth.
